Winter 2021 - Dorothy and Scarecrow
Divider logo line

The Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus wandered the Trunk or Treat in search of NorthStar kids. They found them thanks to Mary Sanderson’s keen sense of smell. The first trunk or treat was held October 16th in the parking lot of the Crossroads United Church of Christ. We are grateful to the church who have been so willing to let us use their big parking lot for drive-thru Covid testing, vaccine and flu shot clinics, and to pick up supplies. The second candy roundup was in Titusville at the St Francis Reflections office parking lot on October 23rd. Scooby-Doo, Velma, a pair of pumpkins, a wicked witch, a football player, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, and the Lion as well. The Wicked Witch of the East was NOT invited. Her sister, the Wicked Witch of the West was not happy.

135 children and their families attended the events in Titusville and Melbourne. Almost every month of the year Lynn Kiefer, the NorthStar Coordinator creates unique ways to engage children and young people who have experienced loss. Her mission is to help them create new memories while taking the time necessary to process the loss of their loved ones. What better way to do that than to dress up in a favorite costume and fill a bag full of goodies. To round out the wonderful events, Chick-Fil-A of Merritt Island Square Mall and Marco’s Pizza of Melbourne provided a nice meal. Friends like Chick-Fil-A and Marco’s Pizza are so appreciated!

Loss can be scary and each time NorthStar engages with kids and their family, they are helping to create a comforting future for each person. The only thing we want NorthStar kids to be scared of – is missing out on all the fun events designed just for them. A gift of any size can help create these moments https://reflectionslsc.org/services/grief-support/#hospChildrensGrief or you can help make a wish come true by purchasing something on our NorthStar Amazon wish list as we head into the holiday season.
