NorthStar

What do popcorn, movies, candy, cactuses, pots, scavenger hunting and magic carpets have in common? Kids and Fun. The creative staff of our child grief program, NorthStar came up with Outdoor Movie Night where families could ride a magic carpet with Aladdin while eating popcorn, candy and of course a soft drink. Several weeks later, Art in the Park gave our NorthStar kids a chance to participate in a scavenger hunt and plant a colorful cactus in a pot they painted. Family Days serve a special purpose, providing opportunities for families to have fun and create new memories while continuing to honor their lost loved ones. We are grateful to our partners at Home Depot and Winn Dixie of Melbourne for providing the supplies and lunches for our Art in the Park and the lunch boxes. This kind of collaboration reminds us how wonderful our community partners are in Brevard.

Finding your NorthStar take vision and courage. It is the beacon that can lead you back and show you the way. St. Francis Reflection’s NorthStar does just that in the lives of children, young adults and their families. With loss comes the disorientation and feelings that life has forever changed.  Each staff member at NorthStar comes alongside the children and their families through activities and groups that intend to provide a compass to each child’s True North.

Over 90 children and young adults are being cared for by the NorthStar program. Any family can be a part of this program within Brevard County. We all know what it is like to lose someone we love. It can knock you down, make you weary and create a gap in your life.  These wonderful events provide a place to find your smile, to run and play and to again find your balance.
