Winter 2021 - Hopes Dreams
Divider logo line

As children we have our favorite things, our favorite places, and our favorite people. When asked, children will with enthusiasm tell anyone what matters to them. The whole world is open to them and they reach for the stars.

As we grow older we continue to aspire for fulfilling the wish lists of our heart. Many times barriers or issues stand in the way of making those dreams happen. Regardless each person as they are on their journey have to pick and choose what they can fulfill and what is left behind.

At St. Francis Reflections we arrive at a time in life where things are winding down. Those we serve are realizing their time is limited and so as we partner with them in those last moments we ask the question – What Matters Most?

This question opens thoughtful conversations with both the patients and their families. A last birthday celebration, a night out, wiggling toes in the sand, watching a sunset or taking a drive. Maybe it’s a family portrait, a new loving home for a beloved pet or a box of chocolate covered cherries.

At St. Francis Reflections each staff member uplifts those they serve by helping fulfill What Matters Most? Here are just four examples of providing these little wishes that mattered.

A cup of tea in her favorite cup and saucer with the social worker, a wife wanting to hug her husband and lay beside him as he passed, a night out at Cracker Barrel with a loved one and the ability to get outside and “feel the sun” on her face. Each of these desires were fulfilled by dedicated staff and our community friends like Cracker Barrel who knows each person deserves to find peace and contentment in their sunset moments.

We ask each person What Matters Most because we still believe that the whole world is open to them and that they can still reach for the stars.
